Framing Music

Ongoing

Isolate, displace, duplicate, reverse, erase elements of a performance in a real time frame to reveal the basic underlying relationships between time and function. The relationships can be recorded and transferred to various transmitting devices, the ultimate goal being an ever expanding feedback loop.

Vandalize the profane; reveal the sacred.

This is a picture of the Sore Noise Cone Accumulator (special thanks to Dag Weiser), with the General Meta Dispersal Unit in the background. I had people stand in front of the Accumulator, where irritating sounds would cause the subject to emit an orgone-like energy. The Accumulator would then translate and transfer this “energy” to the General Meta Dispersal Unit which in turn sent the translated energy to the musicians. The sounds created by the musicians under the influence of the energy were sent back out to the onlookers, creating a type of feedback loop. I gave a short lecture describing all of this during the performance, but apparently my voice sounded garbled and unintelligible. I spent most of the performance adjusting the machines and scanning the ceiling, where an aurora borealis-type phenomenon would appear if everything worked properly. Thanks to musicians Sutherland Crow, Winter Eights, Andrew & Miguel from La Cerca, Chris & Mona from Molehill Orkestrah, and Naim Amor.
